Dr. Donald J. Centner is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than three decades of experience providing comprehensive eye care. He has been serving patients at in Central Florida since 2005, bringing extensive clinical expertise and a distinguished background in both medicine and military service.
Prior to joining Ascend Vision, Dr. Centner served as a Staff Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmology Department Head at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, where he led the department from 1999 to 2004. His career reflects a longstanding commitment to excellence in patient care, leadership, and medical education.
Dr. Centner earned his medical degree with Distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He also completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia and holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Louisville.
A retired Captain in the United States Navy, Dr. Centner served his country for nearly three decades as a Naval Aviator, Flight Surgeon, and medical leader. During his military career, he held numerous leadership positions, including Aviation Medicine Department Head and Naval Flight Surgeon. His service was recognized with honors including Patrol Wing Atlantic Fleet Flight Surgeon of the Year.
